May 30" to learn more about our impactful work in early childhood education.

Whatcom Early Learning Alliance Convening

» Squalicum Boathouse, May 30

- Five-County region working to strengthen early care and the
education system.

— Keynote from Dr. Kristi Dominguez, Ferndale SD
Superintendent.

— State level messaging about the shift to include more funding for
early learning, data highlights and systems alignment.

- Attended by early learning advocates and groups, law makers,
early care and learning providers and school leaders.

NCTA Open Doors at Whatcom

» NCTA administers the most successful Open Doors
program of 270 in Washington

» Open Doors programs are flexible in how they are
structured to support and re-engage our 6-21 students
who are not on track to graduate.

» Provides educational guidance and programming to attain
credits and enter career pathways to meet graduation
requirements for a diploma pathway and career
preparation.



NCTA Open Doors at Whatcom

» Foundationally built on the interests, aptitudes and
opportunities catered to students by removing barriers,
building and maintaining positive relationships.

» We will host for one year before converting to a WCSC
model as we bring more skills center programming to our
campus.

>» MSD will hire the instructor and be reimbursed by NCTA
for the 2024-25 school year.

» When we operationalize the WCSC in 2025-26, MSD will
be hosting the Open Doors program.

Meridian Middle School's Outdoor School

Meridian Middle School seventh graders
completed a service project at Squalicum Creek Park.



2025 Legislative Platform

>» WASA has moved forward with a focused legislative platform
to emphasize three specific areas that will provide significant
support to ALL 295 school districts.

—Special Education
—Pupil Transportation

—-Materials, Supplies, and Operating Costs

» There are some other prominent issues that will also be
brought forward, however, these are secondary and will not
be the primary focus for WASA. They allow for districts to
emphasize more specific local needs.

-Modify Regionalization/Experience Factors

—Reform Levy/Local Effort Assistance

-Support Capital Facilities


Meridian High School Visit

Our 8th graders from MP3 and Meridian Middle School
had an amazing opportunity to tour Meridian High School.

Writing was a big focus this year. IRE staff and families celebrated
students’ remarkable writing growth this year. This achievement was a
testament to the hard work of dedicated teachers, the enthusiasm of

students and the unwavering support irom families.
