Dear Mr. Riggs and Boone County Board of Education members,

I am writing to request permission to have our annual event, The Celebration on the Little
Coal River. This event has grown through the years, and it has proven to be successful in putting
the good name of Boone County Schools out there for everyone to see as we positively impact
our community. This year’s event is scheduled for May 3, 2024.

Last year we removed tons of solid trash and more than 100 tires out of our landscape
and river. The community partners have grown and include the West Virginia Rivers Coalition,
West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, Coal River Group, Forks of Coal
Foundation, Trash Your Kayak West Virginia, Mountain Mama Lodging, Boone County
Foundation, and Boone Memorial Health, as well as the municipalities of Madison and Danville
and several small businesses throughout our area.

The Army National Guard, Danville Police Department, Danville Volunteer Fire
Department, Madison Police Department, and Madison Volunteer Fire Department have agreed
to be on hand for the day. The Boone County Sherriff’s Department also has agreed to assist in
keeping our students safe. Boone Career and Technical Center Health Science instructor Caspia
Sheppard will train our students in safety measures before the event. She and her students will be

in the Madison Park to offer first aid if it is needed. Safety is always our top priority.

Your Goals. Our Mission.
