Professional Development Support for Long-Term Subs
%* Long-term subs are a vital part of our WHS community, yet they
lack professional support
+ Request to provide them with a mentor teacher and provide them
professional development opportunities, including micro-credentials §
*% Survey results:
+ All LTS surveyed feel a mentor teacher would be beneficial
during the first year.
+ More support in the following areas: lesson planning, understanding standards and lesson
delivery, classroom management, and IEPs

a Fine Arts Programs

Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble both earned straight superior ratings

6 students were selected as All-State musicians, 2 of which were awarded 15t chair in the band and orchestra

13 students were nominated to participate in Region IX Honor Band

The WHS Marching Patriots were the selected to perform for the 15* time in the Apple Blossom Festival parade

15 students were selected for the WVACDA All-State Choirs (the most ever), and 8 were selected for WVMEA All-State Choir
Chamber Choir performed as special guests at the Shepherd University Spring Choral Concert

The Liberty Collective Theatre troop had 5 students receive Outstanding ratings, 3 Superior ratings, and 3 members named to the All- Festival Cast
Art classes received grant money for their Appalachian Storybook project and collaborated with Ms. Hoover for the Wildlife Forever Fish Art Contest

Adobe Premiere Pro certification — 7 students (industry credential)
Adobe Illustrator certification — 29 students (industry credential)
Adobe Animate certification — 15 students (industry credential)
Microsoft Excel certification — 10 students

Microsoft Word certification —11 students

Microsoft PowerPoint certification — 7 students

2 students won the Jefferson County Schools Young Writers Contest and were recognized at the state level
3 students advanced to the state competition for Math Field Day

1 student placed 15tin Mathematics at Eastern Panhandle Regional Science Fair and participated at the state level
Collaboration established with Shepherd University to provide tutoring during the school day

Counseling department dramatically improved student college financial readiness through weekly scholarship newsletter

* Student Organizations

Interact Club donated over $300 to charitable organizations and provided Christmas gifts to 2 local children

National Technical Honor Society held the 15*Annual Dream Big Summit, providing leadership workshops and keynote
addresses

Washington FFA had 2 teams compete at National FFA Convention, both ranking silver; also had student place 1/104 and
receive perfect score on math practicum

Snow Ball Winter Formal sponsored by the Key Club raised over $4,000 that was donated to the Jefferson County Boys and
Girls Club

Key Club purchased books by a local author for every classroom at South Jefferson Elementary

DECA opened Washington Warehouse in Spring 2023

Collaboration with Berkeley County to put on Sensory Free Prom

BSU held the 15t Heritage Week and sent students to Charleston to discuss bills with Senators

HLSA held Financial Aid night in Spanish to provide information to the Spanish-speaking families in the county
