Kalama School Board Meeting

September 23, 2024

Athletic/Activities Update

Fall sports:

HS Volleyball: the team is at 27 athletes and is sitting at 2-1 overall (0-1 in league).
Their lone loss so far this season is against La Center- who they played tough! Their
home opener is Thursday, 9/19 at home vs. Stevenson.

MS Volleyball: The season is now underway and we are currently sitting at 32 MS
volleyball athletes. All three teams won their games on Monday, 9/16 against Castle
Rock in front of a packed gym! We are working on making the upper gym available to
avoid potential safety issues, as many athletes were laying on the gym floor while
games were being played. On Wednesday, 9/18 the teams played at Cascade MS- with
the mixed team coming away with a loss, but both the 7th grade and 8th grade teams
came home with the W!

Golf: The team of Trevor Hale, Gabe Crawford, Nolan Scott, Connar Williams, and
Brayden Torres is very young and inexperienced but are learning the skills of the game
and have come a long way since the start of the season. They have added another
athlete to the mix, Hunter Walton-Dunne, but he has yet to participate in matches as he
works towards reaching the minimum practice requirement.

Cross Country- We are currently at 20 MS and 12 HS XC athletes. So far, they have
had three meets- the 63rd Annual Steve Maas Run-a-Ree (hosted by Hudson’s Bay
HS); the Trico League meet at La Center HS on Tuesday, 9/10; and the Rainier
Invitational hosted by Rainier, OR on Saturday, 9/14. Their next meet is a league meet
at White Salmon on 9/25.

Soccer- The team is at 29 athletes and are sitting at 1-2 overall (0-1 in league play).
Their next game is on Thursday, 9/19 at Stevenson.

HS Football- Currently at 37 athletes. They are at 2-0 overall as they enter league play
this Friday at home vs. King’s Way. They are struggling a bit with keeping their numbers
up to field a JV team, due to grades, injuries, illness, etc.

MS Football: They are at 28 athletes and opened up their first game with a win at home
vs. Napavine on 9/12, They;ll take on Rainier, WA on Thursday, 9/19.

Cheer- Cheer has 12 participants and has been electric at the football games!

We are in the process of getting our new scoreboard device for the stadium.
Unfortunately, the controller that operates the scoreboard is fried. | will be sending the
old one in for refurbishment once the new one arrives so that we can have two devices
in case we have a similar issue in the future.

All winter schedules have been confirmed in Arbiter and spring schedules are being
finalized with the rest of the league at the next AS meeting.

FinalForms:
Fall sports is at 95% compliance on FF for our coaches and 86% compliance for our fall
sports athletes.

ASB:

Homecoming: The HC football game will be on Friday, 9/27 against Fort Vancouver. The
HC dance will take place on Saturday, 10/12 from 8:00-11:00 PM.
