Policy Updates October 28, 2024 OAK, HARBOR R ee x YING TOC H#ONEOAKHARBOR Policies to be Discussed e 3241/3241P Student Discipline e 3420 Anaphylaxis Prevention and Response STRONG CULTURE OF INCLUSION, SAFETY, & BELONGING 3241/3241P Student Discipline e Purpose: This policy sets in place student discipline with the intent to support positive school climate, maximize instructional time and increase equitable educational opportunity for all students. e) 3241/3241P Student Discipline e Revisions: STRONG CULTURE OF INCLUSION, SAFETY, & BELONGING Defines “Discretionary Discipline” as student behavior that violates rules of student conduct for disruptive behavior. Defines “Non-discretionary discipline” as student behavior such as firearms, dangerous weapons, gang activity... STRONG CULTURE OF INCLUSION, SAFETY, & BELONGING 3241/3241P Student Discipline e Revisions: o May not apply discipline that would: m Deny or delay a school meal m Prevent a student from completing a graduation reguirement m Withhold recess (30 min state mandated) o Behavioral Violation and Severity Level Matrix - added brief definitions for ease of use STRONG CULTURE OF INCLUSION, SAFETY, & BELONGING 3241/3241P Student Discipline e Revisions: o Classroom exclusions for Type 1 violations are explicitly allowed m Jeacher must attempt at least one classroom level continuum of response prior to exclusion mw May exclude except inan emergency mw May exclude up to 2 days or until a principal confers STRONG CULTURE OF INCLUSION, SAFETY, & BELONGING 3241/3241P Student Discipline e Revisions: o An exclusion does not include missed instruction that is brief and: e Classroom management practices are used to support student behavior e Student remains under the supervision of school personnel during the brief duration e Student can make up the work STRONG CULTURE OF INCLUSION, SAFETY, & BELONGING 3241/3241P Student Discipline e Revisions: o Teacher must still inform administration and parents o Informal grievance procedure has been simplified o Students are not guaranteed a grade when discipline is applied (ISS, STS, LTS, EX) o Donot have to consider other forms of discipline when a student is causing an “immediate and continuing threat of material and substantial disruption of the educational process” and an emergency removal is warranted STRONG CULTURE OF INCLUSION, SAFETY, & BELONGING 3420 Anaphylaxis Prevention and Response e Purpose: Allows staff to treat students in an anaphylactic emergency e Revisions: o New state standing order allows school to have their own epinephrine auto injectors o May use the school supply if that is quickest or there Is a student with undiagnosed anaphylaxis E Mao (ey e) SiN?
